Solid research stands at the heart of every good idea and end product.
I'm trained in both visual and textual research, on a practical as well as on an academic level.

AMFI's inspiration book assignment was about collecting and analysing the widest possible variety of materials that inspire me as a fashion student. It taught me how to create new meaning by combining individual images and materials together. Being intrigued by most people's fear of oblivion, I came up with the concept "Remember Me”. The three chapters 'Leaving a Mark', 'How to be YOUnique' and 'Ecological Footprint', present the different directions in which the desire to be remembered shows

Based on the pre-Columbian Inca tribe, this AMFI assignment serves to fictionally inspire minimalistic fashion brand COS. After profound research and a comprehensive analysis of the Incas, I translated representative original images from this tribe into contemporary ones that would meet the style of COS. The concept "I, Identify" is inspired by the brand's target group. With their intellect and individuality, the customer of COS resembles to the ancient Incas; they can identify.

Aiming to analyse a blazer as basic clothing article, made me investigate the influence that different time periods have had on this garment. As I am inspired by the relation that Visual Culture has with philosophy, I applied the platonic view of Greek philosopher Plato to formulate the answer to my own, branding related research question. Resulting in a small booklet called "Ceci n'est pas un blazer formelle".

For my Masterthesis Communication science I conducted a qualitative study on a combination of topics that fascinate me: communication, consumer behaviour, advertising, branding, and the relationship these have towards sustainability.

Fashion Theories is an honours minor within AMFI that teaches students to look at fashion from a different perspective by applying academic principles to analyse subjects ranging from history, anthropology, sociology, marketing and consumer culture. For this research proposal I got inspired by the omnipresence of counterfeit products in the fashion industry – I wanted to investigate what the endless circle of copying does to the feeling and emotion that is attached to a fashion product.

The unit Media and Communication was part of my exchange semester at QUT in Brisbane, Australia. I learned to uncover the deeper layer behind media outings and to “read” them as a text. During the course I wrote an essay in which I analysed and compared two media texts to show how the representation of women as they are presented in the media leads to objectification in real life.
